In a moment of weakness, it can disintegrate within minutes. But it can take up to six hours for an Easter egg to escape.
A large egg with three chocolate chips hidden inside contains 1,780 calories, which is almost the recommended daily allowance for women.
According to an expert at Loughborough University, this indulgence would require a six-hour 15-mile walk or a three-hour jog.
Professor of behavioral medicine Amanda Daley looked at the calories of the UK’s favorite Easter treats and calculated how much exercise an adult would need to cut them down.
It takes a 24-mile hike to light a large Easter egg (archive photo) with three chocolates hidden inside.
For example, a large Lindt chocolate bunny has 1,080 calories, which means you’ll have to walk after three hours and 40 minutes.
And a bag of mini eggs takes 40 minutes to run.
But there’s good news for those who shy away from chocolate: A warm, buttery sandwich can be eaten in a little over an hour.
The calculations are based on an average person weighing 12 to 8 pounds, with lighter people walking longer and heavier people burning calories faster.
Professor Daley said: “It’s not the hot cross buns we need to worry about, it’s the chocolate … so maybe some Easter flowers would be a better alternative to an extra egg.”
He added: “It’s the holiday season and people need to have fun, especially if they run out of chocolate during Lent, but it might be a good idea to have just one Easter egg, and that’s more than enough for the holiday weekend.”
During the Christmas season, Professor Daley figured people would have to walk for about 12 hours on Boxing Day to burn off the excess of their Christmas Day lunch.

Looking at Easter, she found that a pack of mini chocolate eggs, which totals about 400 calories, would be burned by a 40-minute jog or an 80-minute walk.
Writing in an Easter blog on the university’s website, Professor Daley recommends taking daily walks over the holiday weekend, keeping track of how many Easter meals you have, and getting rid of any leftover Easter eggs before Tuesday. the holidays are over. . from.
Whenever people feel the need to pop into the closet for some more Easter eggs, tell them to wait for their appetite to subside, which may cause them to crack a smaller piece of chocolate later.
