Oat milk is one of more than 50 Lyons Magnus products withdrawn due to possible microbial contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that poor commercial sanitation practices in Lyon factories lead to possible contamination of Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria. The bacterium causes a rare infection that can be dangerous for immunocompromised people. No infections associated with the products have yet been reported.

Oats have been at the forefront of the popularity of oat milk in the United States in recent years. As a member of a group that bought a $200 million stake in the company in 2020, Jay-Z has received support from stars like Natalie Portman and Oprah. % increase over the previous year.

Americans who have one of the 53 collected items at home are advised to throw the item away or return it to a retailer for a refund.

The FDA did not elaborate on how it became aware of the potential contamination and in which plants it occurred.

Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria found in recall centers can cause infections with symptoms such as fever, vomiting and urinary tract infection.

While infections are rare, the FDA warns that people who are immunocompromised or part of another vulnerable population are at increased risk of contracting the infection.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports two to four cases a year, but warn that this is likely an understatement.

Newborns are among the group with the highest risk of infection. The recall does not include Lyons Magnus products for children.

At the heart of Abbott’s baby food memory is the same bacteria that has caused a famine that has hit the nation in recent months.

A total of 53 products under the Lyons Magnus umbrella were affected by the recall.

These include Pirq protein products, Stumptown cold coffees, and Glucerna meal substitutes designed for diabetics.

Oatly is the group’s most recognizable brand. The Swedish-based company Malmö arrived in the United States four years ago and has quickly become a favorite with young millennials and zoomers.

Oatly did not immediately respond to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.

Demand for the beverage was so high that it spread to the US and Europe and even faced a supply shortage at the start of its maiden voyage.

The company reported sales of $185.9 million in 2021, a 46% increase over the previous year.

It recorded $55 million of those sales in the United States, nearly doubling its annual sales.

In recent years, Oatly has benefited greatly from the fight against standard cow’s milk.

It comes as part of growing public concerns about lactose intolerance and environmental concerns surrounding the dairy industry.

The brand has also attracted the attention of large investors. One group in 2020 included Blackstone, one of the world’s largest private equity firms, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, actress Natalie Portman, and rapper Jay-Z. invested $200 million in the company.

Progressive New York Rep Alexandria Ocasio Cortez also introduced oat milk as an eco-friendly alternative to cow’s milk.
