can you walk up the stairs

I can climb some stairs. I mainly rely on dance training to keep fit – I’m not touring at the moment so I haven’t been training but I’ll get back. I have my own workout routine that I do at home with a TRX set [suspension strap used to bear your own weight].

you get five a day

I try. I’m one of those people who likes to eat a lot of everything. I love fruit – bananas, berries, apples. I tried to slow down on red meat.

Have you ever been on a diet?

I have. After closures I had to get back into shape for Strictly but it took me about a month to get back to where I wanted to be. I am about 6 feet tall and usually weigh about 85 kg.

Any vices?

I am a very social type and enjoy drinking in company. But I’ll also stick to clear drinks like gin and a little tequila.

Family problems?

Psoriasis. I get it on my legs, feet, knees and elbows. It’s worse when I’m on tour. I think it’s the stress of moving. Then, during lockdown, when I was stressed about not being able to work, my psoriasis got a little worse.

Worst injury?

I sprained my ankles and dislocated my shoulders. It’s for dancers. But when you’re active, you recover faster from injuries.

swallow pills?

In the past I have tried maybe 50 different products to help with my psoriasis. Now I take capsules and a cream [with plant extracts used in traditional Chinese medicine], which made a huge difference. I also take a multivitamin and vitamin C.

Have you ever had plastic surgery?

Never say never, but I don’t see it anytime soon.

To handle pain well?

I’m pretty good, but as Janette [his wife, former Strictly dancer Janette Manrara, 39] pain, then I think I have as much pain as if it were my pain.

Trying alternative remedies?

I get acupuncture weekly when I’m on tour and I did when I was on Strictly. I use it mainly for my aches and pains. I also go to a chiropractor for neck pain.

Have you ever been depressed?

NO. Just the normal ups and downs of life.

hangover medicine?

Two large glasses of water before I go to bed and then some painkillers.

that keeps you awake

When I’m not at home, I often spend too much time on my cell phone.

Any phobias?

I am afraid of spiders and snakes. Janette turned.

do you want to live forever

Yes, provided all the people who are important to me do the same.
