HBO Max has updated the Hogwarts house crests for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, introducing circular emblems ahead of its premiere on Christmas Day.
The revised visual designs mark one of the first major aesthetic departures from the feature film adaptations. According to specialized television account Previosuly Series, the four Hogwarts houses will retain their signature colors and animal mascots while adopting a modernized decorative look.
Traditional heraldic shields have been replaced by circular emblems featuring the house animal centered within ornamental motifs. The name of each house is now set along an integrated outer band.

Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw will all feature the updated design framework. Notably, Ravenclaw will feature an eagle in its emblem, returning to the original description in the novels by J.K. Rowling after the movie franchise previously depicted the house mascot as a raven.
Broadcast schedule and second season extension
A new trailer for the first season of the series is scheduled for release tomorrow. HBO Max has set the first episode to air on December 25, 2026, launching a weekly broadcast calendar that extends into early 2027.
The eight episode first season will conclude on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2027. Following the Christmas Day debut, the second episode will air on January 3, 2027, followed by weekly releases on January 10, January 17, January 24, January 31, and February 7.
Production has already confirmed that the series has been renewed for a second season. The upcoming second installment will adapt the second novel in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Filming for the second season is scheduled to begin next autumn, reflecting a continuous production timeline designed to maintain momentum between seasons.
Lead cast and sophisticated creative direction
The television adaptation stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. They are supported by a veteran main cast including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
HBO Max aims to deliver a multi-season project that explores each of Rowling's original novels in greater detail than the previous films permitted.
From the second season onward, the network plans to steer the narrative toward a darker, more adult, and sophisticated tone. To guide this transition, HBO Max has brought writer Jon Brown onto the creative team.
Brown previously worked on the network's critically acclaimed drama series Succession alongside Francesca Gardiner, who serves as the lead adapter for the Harry Potter series. Their established working relationship will now shape the direction of the wizarding series.
The inclusion of creative talent from Succession is intended to introduce narrative depth and maturity tailored for older audiences who grew up reading the books and watching the original films. The darker tone is expected to be reflected in early promotional material, although HBO Max noted the project is designed as a sophisticated adaptation of the material rather than a drastic departure from its fantasy roots.
