The Hellenic Coast Guard confirmed that a body located on Wednesday morning in the sea area west of Symi belongs to an eighth German tourist missing since Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2. The man was one of eight people on board a sailboat swept away by strong currents in the broader Symi area.
Emergency teams rescued seven foreign passengers during the initial operation, while authorities carried out extensive searches for the missing man.
Recovery and autopsy
A Coast Guard patrol boat recovered the body from the water and transported it to Rhodes. Authorities then transferred the body to the Forensic Service of Dodecanese for an autopsy.
