The body of an eighth missing German tourist was identified west of Symi on Wednesday, August 5, the Hellenic Coast Guard announced. The tourist had been missing since the afternoon of Sunday, August 2.
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the man was part of an eight-member group on a sailing boat that strong sea currents swept away in waters near Symi. Rescuers previously saved seven foreign passengers from the vessel, while authorities launched an extensive search operation for the missing eighth person.
Recovery and autopsy
A Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boat recovered the body from the sea on Wednesday morning. Authorities initially transported the remains to Rhodes and later transferred them to the Forensic Service of Dodecanese for an autopsy.
