Hugh Jackman says DEADPOOL 3 ‘won’t screw up the LOGAN timeline, which was important to me’

Hugh Jackman surprised fans a few months ago when he announced he would be returning as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. The film will be the first Deadpool film Marvel has made officially, so it will be nice to see what the studio does with it, and it will be great to see Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and his frantic real-life Jackman team up for what I assume will be a wild, over-the-top adventure!

But one reservation Jackman had about accepting this gig was the fact that when he ended his reign as Wolverine in the 2017 film Loganoboth Jackman and fans felt this was a perfect movie that finalized the character’s life, and didn’t want his return to negate that story.

He recently sat down with Variety to talk about how comfortable he felt moving forward with Marvel, saying:

“It’s all because of this device that they have in the Marvel world to move through timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to mess up the “Logan” timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably the fans too.

Based on Jackman’s new comments, it seems all but confirmed that he will be playing a version of Wolverine that fans have never met before. Whether that means he’s an entirely different Wolverine from the other side of the multiverse or Wolverine himself just traveled back in time before his death in 2029 remains to be seen.

Director James Mangold responded to fans who were concerned about how the director would feel about his character’s return, saying on Twitter:

“Oh my God! Everyone relax. Just kidding! I’m fine! ‘Logan’ will always be there. Multiverse or prequel, time warp or wormhole, canon or non-canon or even without logic, I can’t wait to see what madness come up with my dear friends Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman!
