Walter Hamada’s firing, coupled with the departure of old Warner Bros. directors, led the company to look for a name to take over DC Studios. But it wasn’t an easy task, as every prospect they approached turned down the job and even had to beg “Joker” director Todd Phillips to stay on as DC’s leader.
A new report from the New York Post (via ComicBook) mentions that David Zaslav and his team are inside Warner Bros. Discovery considered Todd Phillips as head of DC Studios, because no one who wanted the post dared to take it. “Everyone turned down the job. It was almost Todd Phillips. They begged him,” commented the new president of WB.
Before James Gunn took the job, warner you “pleaded” Todd Phillips takes over DC, regarding its films, series for HBO, animations and future video games of the company. But he ultimately didn’t accept, and the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director kept the job, which was once also offered to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.
The insider of the medium mentions it Warner Bros, was afraid to hire James Gunn, because despite his vast experience in the world of superheroes, he has not had a career as an executive, much less as a planner of a universe that contemplates beyond films and series. It is for this reason that many creatives have also stayed away from the job offer.

Why didn’t Todd Phillips agree to run DC Studios?
The report does not mention the reasons why Todd Phillips turned down DC Studios’ offer, however, it is believed that with many years of liability ahead of the company, the ‘Joker’ director has finally decided to step back. just focus on its sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. Ultimately, the EUDC’s reputation in recent years hasn’t worked in its favor, and many creatives have preferred to avoid the issue.
It is unknown who Warners approached to offer him the position of director of DC Films, a position similar to that of Kevin Feige at Marvel. But after the departure of Walter Hamada, WB was looking for fresh and creative names who could take the reins of DC, and that’s how James Gunn and Peter Safran accepted the challenge, which they will present future plans for the next 10 years next January.
Now Todd Phillips is totally dedicated to the recordings of ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’, the sequel to his 2019 blockbuster, which will now bring back Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur, along with a new partner, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, who will be played by singer and actress Lady Gaga.
