There are many stories behind Quentin Tarantino’s films, from movies he could never have made, to comic book adaptations he wished he could have made but never got around to. But one of the most interesting issues are the actors who could have brought their characters to life, in this case Adam Sandler, who would become one of the most recognized villains, in one of his most acclaimed films.

In a long list of actors who nearly landed the role, Quentin Tarantino confesses he wanted Adam Sandler ‘Inglourious Basterds’. This was reported by FandomWire, which recalls that the director recently revealed that the original plans for his film were very different from those that ended up in theaters.

In the Club Random podcast by Bill Maher, Judd Appatow and Quentin Tarantino talked about the film ‘Little Nicky’ attended by Adam Sandler. The director said it was through Sandler that he met Apatow, a comedian who doesn’t appear in the film, but with whom he struck up a friendship off the recording sets.

But it wasn’t just paper Quentin Tarantino wanted Adam Sandler as a Jewish bear, the “Jewish bear”, which Eli Roth finally got. The director said he made the decision when Apatow called Sandler on ‘Funny People’: ‘I didn’t know it was the exact time you were trying to use him for ‘Inglorious Basterds.’ […] I feel bad,” said the comedian.

Though he failed to win the part, Tarantino said Sandler was excited to be in his film with Brad Pitt: “He was like, ‘Oh man, can I hit Nazis with a bat? lines of! Amazing! I can not wait! I can’t wait to wait!’ It was like saying to every Jew, ‘I’m going to play this guy who beats Nazis with a fucking club.’”

Tarantino added that “all the good Jews” were in ‘Funny People’: “I’m killing Hitler with baseball bats and there are no good Jews available! David Krumholtz, nobody! All the good Jews were involved! I’m doing Jewish male fantasy!” exclaimed the director.

Unfortunately, both films were recorded at the same time, and now it remains only to imagine how Adam Sandler could have played the role of the bear Jew in one of the most mythical scenes of ‘Inglourious Basterds’. Although Tarantino can still fulfill his dream of participating with Adam Sandler in his latest film or his next series.
