The gun-toting, fan-favorite Marvel character Rocket Raccoon is the heart and soul of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In fact, this character is why James Gunn returned to write and direct the film. In an interview with EW, Gunn explained:
“One of the reasons I came back to [make] this film was because I felt I had to tell the story of Rocket. I would have really regretted not completing the trilogy for many reasons, but I feel very connected to Rocket. I feel like no one would be able to tell the whole story about him if it weren’t me.”
Gunn mentioned earlier that Rackett is loosely based on himself. We’ve been hearing for a while that the story of this sequel would revolve heavily around Rockett and that too was teased in the trailer that was released. Gunn now offers some insight into the character, saying:
“To me, Rocket has always been the secret protagonist of the Guardians movies. From the beginning, it’s been ingrained in who he is as a character. I think he exemplifies a lot of the traits of all Guardians. They’ve had all these traumas, and it brings them together. I just think his is more extreme than others.”
His goal for this film is to give Rocket the satisfying arc he deserves, exploring how the villainous High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) transformed him from an ordinary raccoon to a genetically engineered killing machine. Gunn talked about it:
“He was totally fine being an animal, and he was transformed into something else he didn’t want to be. I think the transformation itself was extremely painful, but I also think it made him feel incredibly alienated from everyone else. In vol. 3, We learn a lot about his past: where he’s from, who he is and what he’s been through. It’s been a rough road for the little animal.”
Gunn went on to say that making this film was the “hardest thing I’ve ever done” and says he wanted this film to be a true send-off for these characters, for himself, as well as his cast and crew. He said:
“Once I started making the first Guardians movie, I felt drawn to it. I felt called to do it, if that makes any sense. So I feel very good about it. [about Vol. 3] because I feel I’ve done everything possible to make this trilogy the best it can be. And I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have had all these people around me to do that. It’s the greatest blessing of my life.”
The story that Gunn concocted left the cast in a flood of tears, so fans better prepare for an emotional ride. At Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 “Our beloved band of misfits look a little different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe and protect one of their own. A mission that, if not successfully completed, could lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista like Drax, Zoe Saldana like Gamora, Karen Gillan like Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin/Rocket on set, Afternoon Clementeff like mantis, Bradley Cooper such as Rocket, and Vin Diesel like Groot. There are also new additions to the cast Will Poult such as Adam Warlock e Chukwudi Iwuji such as the High Evolutionary as well as Daniela Melchior, Nico Santoand Borat next movie‘S Maria Bakalova like Cosmo the space dog.
