The story of Brendan Fraser and the Golden Globes is a controversial story, because until a few years ago the ‘The Mummy’ actor decided to talk about the abuses he had suffered at the hands of the president of the film association. After his remarks, Fraser admitted that he never returned to the awards and despite this, the actor received a nomination for his work in Darren Aronofksy’s upcoming film, ‘The Whale’ at the 80th awards.
This Monday, December 12, the list of candidates was announced in Golden Globeswhere is it Brendan Fraser earned a mention for ‘The whale’, for Best Actor in a Drama. Also in the category are other names such as Austin Butler for ‘Elvis’, Hugh Jackman for ‘The Son’, Bill Nighy for Living and Jeremy Pope for ‘The Inspection’.
Recently, Brendan Fraser says he won’t be attending the Golden Globes never again, because the president of the company sexually abused him many years ago, an event of which he barely spoke in 2018: “I will not participate. It’s because of the history I have with them. My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me many things, but not like that,” said the actor.
Phillip Berk, then president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, abused ‘The Mummy’ actor in 2003 after the latter came over to say hello, and Berk took advantage of him. For many years, the director of the Golden Globes denied the fact, until he accepted responsibility for him, and was fired in 2021 after a letter about the Black Lives Matter movement.
