With the firing of Walter Hamada from DC Films and the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran in the role, many of the company’s projects have been put on hold, canceled or changed. One that was recently first revealed was an adaptation of ‘Crisis on Infinite Earth’, one of the most acclaimed arcs in comics, and which would be the place to re-introduce Henry Cavill as Superman. , and which has already been completely excluded.
The Hollywood Reporter (via The Direct), shared the first details of the initial plan on the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, prior to ‘Black Adam’. And so it is, the Dwayne Johnson-starring film came at a time of transition for the company, where Warner Bros and Discovery were about to merge, and plans with the EUDC were about to be altered.
Originally plans to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman in an adaptation of ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’, a DC comic arc centered around a conflict in the multiverse, where all the superheroes from different realities come together to face a common threat. But it was Dwayne Johnson who managed to get the company’s executives to do it as soon as possible.
presumably, Walter Hamada had a long-term plan for Henry Cavill to return as Superman, up to the adaptation of ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’. Now Gun and Safran would have slightly changed the future of the EUDC, despite the fact that Toby Emmerich, the former president of WB, has refused to see the actor of Netflix’s “The Witcher” again, with the mantle of the Man of ‘Steel.

What’s happening with Henry Cavill’s future as Superman?
After several days of uncertainty, after a report from THR mentioned that ‘Wonder Woman 3’ was canceled and other projects like ‘Man of Steel 2’ and ‘Black Adam’ were in danger of being cancelled, James Gunn was questioned by several fans of wanting to sabotage the future of the DC Extended Universe, in which Henry Cavill no longer appears as Superman, despite his recent announcement.
However, on his social media, Gunn clarified what was going on with Cavill’s return, and confirmed to those who believed that the director didn’t like the actor as Clark Kent, and that he would be replaced. The director of ‘The Suicide Squad’ has confirmed that Superman is a priority for the company and that Cavill’s future is all but assured for the new era of the DC Universe.
But we’ll have to wait a few more weeks before Gunn and Safran decide to present their plans for the next 10 years to DC Films, which include branching out the DCEU into video games, series, animation and, of course, movies. Also, don’t leave aside what will happen to future installments in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ and Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ universes.
