Horror has expanded its conventions on many occasions, or if you want to look at it, drama has often benefited from scary elements that transform its stories into a dubious plot of different genres. And because they don’t live up to many labels, these psychological thrillers might as well be horror movies, and nobody was going to say a thing.

Director David Croneberg’s latest installment is the perfect example of a psychological thriller that its story is almost a horror film. “Future Crimes” starring Kristen Stewart, Lea Seydoux and Viggo Mortensen is a sci-fi drama about a world where humans have evolved so rapidly and now pain is used as a form of entertainment. The tragedy of Macbeth

Joel Coen, this time without his brother Ethan, presented with A24, ‘The tragedy of Macbeth’, a drama that borders on a horror film sometimes. Starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, the story follows Macbeth, a gentleman convinced by witches that he will become the next king of Scotland, and his wife will do anything to support him. Available on Apple TV.

The menu

Although it may not seem like it at first, ‘The menu’ It’s a thriller that slowly turns into a horror movie.. Directed by Mark Mylod, this 2022 film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes, Nicholas Hoult, among others. The story is about a couple who travel to an island to try the food of a world-famous chef, who will surprise their appetizers with his dishes.

Don’t worry honey

Controversy aside, Olivia Wilde this year presented ‘Don’t Worry Darling’, a horror thriller starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. She is about a couple living a quiet life in a 1950s community. But soon her wife begins to worry about the secrets her husband is keeping from her. Available on HBO Max.

Master

Mariama Diallo and Regina Hall presented this year 2022, “The Master”, a drama and suspense film in which Gail Bishop and Jasmine Moore are two African American women who work at a university in New England. Everything was going well, until they start experiencing a series of strange happenings in the facilities. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

The stranger

In a disturbing mix between a crime thriller and the best moments of a horror film, we find ‘The Stranger’, a film by Tom Wright, starring Joel Edgerton alongside Sean Harris. It’s about an undercover cop who befriends Henry, a murder suspect, who will try to gain his trust to make him confess. Available on Netflix.
