Michelle Yeoh is the latest actress to join the cast of Jon M. ChuThe upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Evil. All everywhere all at once the star will play the role of Madame Morrible, who is the headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University.
The three-time Tony Award-winning musical was adapted from a book by Gregory Maguireand is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It tells the story of how the green-skinned Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as the sorceress Glinda’s trajectory to become known as the Good Witch.
Yeoh joins the previously announced cast of Cynthia Erivo who plays Elphaba, with Ariana Grande playing Glinda. The film also stars Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch And Crashing) as Fiero. Also, last we heard, Jeff Goldblum is in talks to play The Wizard.
Jon M. Chu he is directing the film in two parts, from a script written by the author of the play book Winne Holzman and composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Speaking about the two-part film, Chu said, “We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and not just make one Evil movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Evil as it was to be told bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters.
Universal Pictures films will be released at Christmas in 2024 and 2025.
