Dakota Johnson makes her directorial debut with a movie starring Charlie XCX and Jessica Alba

According to the casting announcement, the actress will make her directorial debut with The Tree is Blue, a coming-of-age drama, World of Reel writes.

Johnson assembles a cast that includes Charli XCX, Jessica Alba and Vanessa Burghardt. Dakota is producing the film under the TeaTime brand. The film’s script was written by Burghardt, who played Johnson’s daughter in Cha Cha Cha for Real.

The actress wants to tell the story of a young woman with autism who runs away from her overprotective but loving mother in the summer after graduating from high school and looks for freedom, friendship and a little chaos. Lately, Dakota has been expressing her desire to create space for more original stories in Hollywood; especially for the stories told by people whose experiences are brought to the big screen. Johnson called the project “very close to his heart.”

Interestingly, Grammy-winning singer Charli None have been released yet.
