Tarzan is a muscular, muscular man, that’s clear. It is not for nothing that he can go from liana to liana in the jungle and look like another animal. So he’s always been portrayed and in 1997’s ‘George of the Jungle’ is no exception. However, it seems that Brendan Fraser went overboard when it came to becoming the Man-Ape: The actor confessed that he barely ate during filming, which affected his brain.

“The dressing room was that there was no dressing room”recalls Fraser: “George Wears a Thong”. This caused him to go on a strict diet to become the herculean figure we remember. “I didn’t take carbs”bringing him to such an extent that he ended up hurting him: “One day I needed to withdraw cash and I went to an ATM and I couldn’t remember my PIN number because my brain let me down”he admits. “I Didn’t Eat That Night”.
That was Fraser’s response to comments from Adam Sandler, with whom he co-starred on ‘Airheads,’ in a Variety-orchestrated meeting in which the actors interview each other. Sandler had mentioned the “muscle” that the actor played Tarzan from ‘George of the Jungle’, joking: “You did the character justice, but it was unfair to us man. You made us feel bad about ourselves”but Fraser’s answer made you realize that all is not perfect as it seems.
the other end
It’s been 25 years since ‘George of the Jungle’ premiered and soon Fraser will release a very different film: ‘The Whale’, where he plays a morbidly obese man with little time to live, a role for which he has been praised. “He is a man who weighs hundreds of kilos and lives with obesity because he harmed himself by eating too much”Fraser tells his partner Sandler in the same meeting. “He regrets the decisions he has made in his life and needs to redeem himself in the little time he has left”.
When asked by Sandler about the physical transformation, Fraser points out that part of it is building the makeup and wardrobe teams. “I got fat to play this part and it wasn’t enough, so they put the suit on me and the two just worked together”. He admits that for him it is “important” underline it, because “There are people living with this disease. I felt empowered to be their voice and to be as honest and authentic as possible in the portrayal”.
