Jim Starlinfrom the Cosmic Space Opera comic series Star of Terror from the Marvel imprint Epic Comics is confirmed to be in development as a TV series. The news was revealed by Starlin and co-artist Jaime Jameson at CCXP 2022 in Brazil.

When asked about a live-action adaptation, Jameson said, “We’re working on it.” There was a TV series in the works at one point in 2015, which was being developed by the producers Chris Bender And JC Spink and NBCUniversal Battlestar Galactica UCP producers. But Starlin explained that development on that project stalled following Spink’s death in 2017. He said:

“We had a show in the works, but then the producer died. That put a kibosh on everything, so now we’re talking to people again. We don’t want to make a movie. We want to make a series, because it’s a long story. This it makes it a bit difficult right now, but we’re working on it.”

Star of Terror tells the story of Vanth Dreadstar, the last survivor of the Milky Way galaxy. Possessing the power of a demigod and an enchanted sword, the Starslayer searches the galaxy for causes to champion with his intergalactic companions, including the cunning cat-man Oedi, the cyborg sorcerer Syzygy Darklock, the con man Skeevo, and the cybernetic telepath Willow. Spanning the Empirical Galaxy, the series is set against a 200-year war between the monarchy of King Gregzor and the High Lord Papal’s political-mystical-religious order known as The Instrumentality.

The series is in development as Starlin and Jameson recently teamed up to develop the 100-page revival graphic novel Dreadstar Returns. Starlin went on to say:

“This is Dreadstar’s 40th year, and Jaime and I have set out to bring the series back to life. the characters and the inspiration for much of the story”.

Starlin had a serious hand injury that could have ended his career, but he returned. In this regard he said:

“Before I had my hand blown up, I was working on that story. Art book of my own [Dreadstar] omnibus has a few pages. I’ll come back to that story eventually, but that’s not the end of the five graphic novels. I’m going to continue for a while, but I’ll have that script in reserve, and after I die, someone else can draw it.”

This could make for a great series if it were in the hands of the right creative team. Hopefully Starlin and Jameson can find that talented team. What do you think about it Star of Terror be developed as a TV series?
