Bill Murray had a big problem directing Richard Donner in the movie SCROOGED

Bill Murrayit’s the classic Christmas movie Scrooged is a favorite among fans who have seen it. The film was released in 1988 and was a modernized version of the classic tale A Christmas carol. Murray plays a terrifyingly rude TV executive who embodies a modern 1980s Ebenezer Scrooge. It hasn’t become the classic that other holiday movies have had over the years, but it’s a fun film.

Murray has a reason he doesn’t love the movie as much as he might have, and it’s because of a fight he had with the director of the movie, Richard Donner.

In an old 1990 interview with the late, famous film critic, Roger EbertBill Murray gave the main reason he disagreed with Donner’s direction, saying:

“Every single minute of the day. It could have been a really, really great movie. The script was so good. Maybe there’s a shot in the final movie that’s mine. We did it so fast, it was like making a movie.” live. He kept telling me to do things harder, harder, harder. I think he was deaf.”

He really screams throughout the movie. He goes from angry screams to happy screams, and it’s easy to see why he’d be obnoxious. But just as most fans can look past it, Bill Murray didn’t push back either Scrooged like a terrible movie. “It wasn’t that bad,” he told Roger Ebert. “There was something good inside.”

And it seems that this was just how Donner envisioned the character of Murray. None of the director’s other hits pleases The Goonies, Superman, Lethal Weapon or maverick had this problem. Oh well, I still think it’s a really funny movie. I hope Murray can look back on it fondly too.
