The sequel to GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE will be directed by Gil Kenan and the original cast will return

Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer and executive producer Gil Kenan will direct the sequel, whose working title is Fire stationwhich he developed with the original director and co-writer Jason Reitmann. Reitman will be credited as a writer on the sequel and will also serve as an executive producer.

It’s also been announced that the original cast will be returning for the sequel, and that will include Paul Rudd And Carrie Coon with Finn Wolfhard And Mckenna Grace. As for the original ghost Buster cast, all we know is this Ernie Hudsonwill be involved, but Dan Aykroyd And Bill Murray I’m in the air.

Kenan said in a statement, “It is an absolute honor to take up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter in the Spengler family saga. I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the guy in the sixth row at Mann Valley West that one day he was going to direct a Ghostbusters movie.

Reitman added, “A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1 and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. The time has come to hand those keys over to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant filmmaker who will keep Spengler’s spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him with the same productive care and support my father has shown me.”

Kenan is a great choice to direct the film! Previously he made Monster House, Poltergeist and City of Ember. I’m confident he will make another great Ghostbusters movie!

Hudson will have a decent sized role to play in the sequel. Reitman previously shared, “The character of Winston Zeddemore and Zeddemore Industries figures strongly in the future of Ghostbusters.”

The film has previously been described as “the next chapter in the Spengler family story.” It will officially return to New York City and is also expected to take place in the fire department headquarters that was featured in the first two ghost Buster movie.

Hudson previously spoke about the script saying, “I’ve read one version. I’m pretty sure they’re committed to doing another one. I’m very happy with it, but I also know it’s early days. Jason was incredible and I love him and he I really appreciate it. I’m so grateful to be able to work with him. So, I’m excited but… I never have and never assume anything. I’m happy, though, to have Ghostbusters in my filmography. And I’m really happy when I see little kids, of two and three years old, singing the song and being happy with it.”

The Ghostbusters: Afterlife the sequel is currently slated to hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
