Everyone can more or less agree that a good thriller generates many emotions, from bewilderment to horror, from uncertainty to despondency. Well, precisely, the latter is one of the sensations that most awakens in the viewer these stories so disturbing that they will haunt you even in your worst nightmares.
Halfway between thriller and horror, we have ‘Possession’, a thriller that will make you very uncomfortable. Directed by Andrezj Zulawski, the story stars Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neil, and is about a couple going through a difficult time, but she leaves her husband and he, believing she is seeing someone else, secretly follows her, only to discover a terrible truth.

Released in 2015, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Léa Seydoux and others, we have ‘The lobster’, a thriller that will haunt your worst nightmares. Antichrist
Lars von Trier is one of those directors who knows a thing or two about making embarrassing moviesand with ‘Antichrist’, a horror drama starring Willem Dafoe that tells the story of a couple who recently lost their child. The husband is a therapist, and is willing to help his wife overcome the death of the child, and for this he takes her to the forest, where together they will try to cope with the trauma.

Mother!
The perfect definition of a suspense movie that will make you uncomfortable, you will want to stop, until you take it off, is ‘Mother!’, directed by Darren Aronofsky in 2017. It is a drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem in which they bring to life a couple who live in a house away from society, until one day they receive an unexpected visit from people who will destroy everything.
The sacrifice of a sacred deer
Again Yorgos Lanthimos appears in the list, but this time with ‘The Sacrifice of a Sacred Deer’, a thriller starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan. It’s about a boy who strikes up a friendship with the doctor who treated his father before he died. The doctor introduces the young man to his family and they soon begin to bring bad luck to his home. Available on HBOMax.
Funny Games
Here we have to make a clarification, because there are two versions of ‘Funny Games’, one from 2007 and the other from 1997, both by the same director, Michael Haneke, and which is the same story shot by shot, but one in English and with different actors. It is about a family that is on vacation, and is visited by two boys who ask for their help, and who in the end turn out to be two psychopaths.
