During a talk for the Just for Variety podcast, Joe Jonas revealed he auditioned for ‘The Incredible Spider-Man’, after Sony canceled plans for a fourth film in the Sam Raimi franchise starring Tobey Maguire. Back then, the company was looking for a lead role to play Peter Parker with Marc Webb directing.
Although the role ultimately went to Andrew Garfield, Joe Jonas stayed “in pieces” for not acting ‘The Incredible Spider-Man’. The Jonas Brothers singer comments on how the news affected him: “The moment you are destroyed or you feel defeated. But you realize that this other person was great,” he said of his experience with Sony.
“Obviously it was the right one. But I remember it was a huge thing at the time, coming back for callbacks and the director was a music video director. So I said, “I have an opportunity here.” But you know what? I love the audition process and putting yourself out there and having to prove your worth,” she said. Though the singer admits auditions seemed to give him a chance, Joe Jonas never even got to try on the Spider-Man suit, but he recalls how excited he was to win the role, that he had one in case he needed one. . Later, time would prove him right and Garfield would become one of the most criticized Spider-Man in his solo films but avenged in recent years with ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’.
