Iron Man 3 The director Shane Black still wants to bring DOC Savage to the big screen

Iron Man 3 director Shane Black He never let his dream project go. More than a decade after the first registration to make a DOC Savage Film, he still hopes to give life to the hero of Adventure Pulp in a big budget movie.

Black, who built his career by writing classics like how Latal weapon, PredatorAND Last hero of action Before climbing the camera with Kiss Kiss Bang BangIt has a long story of facing ambitious projects. Over the years, it has films as films like The good guys, The predatorand more recently Play dirt. But what has escaped is stopped DOC Savage.

At the beginning of 2010, Black closed an agreement with Sony Pictures to develop the film, with Dwayne Johnson attached to the star. The project eventually blocked, but Black did not give up. Speaking with the Hollywood journalist, he clarified that the character is still close to his heart.

“I have always loved Doc Savage. It is based on the pulp of the 1930s, and it was the superhero OG. It was called Clark [Savage Jr.]And it was literally described as a “super man”. Then the first DOC Savage [in 1933] It was before Clark Kent/Superman [in 1938].

“It was the inspiration behind a generation of comics and pulp and wonderful shit. So I would like, at some point, to revisit that the problem is that the IP is not a family name.

“It is much easier to finance something at that level of spending if he attacked Batman or Superman, unlike something that will be equally expensive and is less a family name.”

The problem, as Black points out, is not passion but practicality. A faithful DOC Savage The film would require a large budget to capture the pulpy sphere, which trouts the adventures of the character. Without a guaranteed box office design such as Batman or Superman, the studies were hesitant to illuminate it.

To the question about the casting now that Johnson has moved away from superhero projects, Black admitted that it is still an open question.

“I don’t know. The problem is that it must be someone with whom you can approach a study and say:” It will be $ 150 million. Minimum. “Doc Savage talks about an entire world of adventure and is a piece of the 1930s.

“I would not want to modernize it. So, yes, I would try to find a way to do it, but I still don’t have an actor in mind. He should be a person compelling enough to convince the study to loosen those strings for us.”

Black clearly has vision and passion, but it will take the Star Stario and the Studio Giusti to do DOC Savage happen. Until then, fans cannot only wonder what his opinion on the legend of the pulp on the big screen would be.
