game of Thrones And X-Men star Sophie Turner is set to star in a six-part drama series inspired by notorious British jewelry thief Joan Hannington for ITV. It is based on Hannington’s memoirs.
The series is titled Giovannacomes from a writer Anna Simone (Mrs. Wilson, The Essex snake), and the show is set in “the brash and ambitious London of the 1980s”. The story follows Turner how the criminal Hannington, whose exploits earned her the nickname “The Godmother” in the underworld of the city.
The story begins with Hannington “in her twenties in a disastrous marriage to an abusive man. When he escapes, she strives for a better life for her and her daughter Debbie before transforming into a skilled jewelry thief.
Turner said, “I am so excited to bring Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to the screen. Giovanna. She is one of the most famous figures in London’s criminal underworld, which earned her the nickname “The Godmother”. A woman alternating between her thriving and daring career as a jewelry thief, all while she tries to get her daughter back from social services, we see a desperate mother dragged into the hilarious world of crime.
Filming will begin in London in the spring of next year. It looks like it will be another big project that Turner will be a part of!
