Nielsen continues to publish streaming audience data in the United States for the key weeks of the showdown between “The House of the Dragon” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. In the week of October 10-16, with eight episodes of the “Lord of the Rings” prequel and nine of the “Game of Thrones” universe series airing, ‘The Rings of Power’ beats’ The House of the Dragon ‘with 1,137 million minutes accumulated across all chapters compared to the HBO series’ 960 million minutes.

At this point, as Variety collects, we can see how the two series have had a different evolution in the debuts of their chapters. “House of the Dragon” had a very strong increase in the first few weeks and stabilized towards the fifth episodewith slight decreases. “The Rings of Power”, however, dropped in the weeks following its debutespecially from the second to the third, but in the last week he managed to make up a lot of ground.

We must keep in mind, as we always emphasize with Nielsen’s measurements, that this is not a comparison on equal terms because the company only measures accumulated minutes in streaming, and “The House of the Dragon” premiered in the United States on HBO’s linear channel, with a pretty good audience. A lot of those viewers wouldn’t see him on demand, so the numbers are lower, and when he’s able to beat “The Rings of Power” (he did it the week of September 19th) that’s great news for the universe. by George RR Martin.

Nielsen also highlighted a couple of curious viewer profile facts that both fantasy series have. While 35% of the Poniente series audience is aged between 18 and 34, over 40% of the show’s viewers on Middle-earth are over 50 years old.

No one overshadows ‘Vigilante’

But all these figures pale in comparison to ‘Vigilante’, which is the true queen of streaming in the week of October 10-16. The Netflix series has amassed 2.355 million minutes, double what ‘The Rings of Power’ did in the same period. Most likely powered by the ‘Dahmer’ effect (which occupies the third position in the standings with 1,108 million minutes), the series also enjoyed a small advantage over other Netflix releases having debuted on Thursday and not on Friday. Likewise, a spectacular figure that explains his unexpected renewal.
