Aircraft! Director David Zucker recently repeated a joke he’s told many times over the years.
“When we do shows Aircraft! we are asked if we can do it Aircraft! today,” Zucker said. “The first thing that came to mind was: ‘Sure, just without the jokes. “
In a video released this week by Dennis Pragers Prager U, director of comedy classics such as The Kentucky Fried Movie, Top secret! and the naked gun Movies have become more specific about the current state of Hollywood.
“My current writing partner Pat Proft and I wrote a parody James Bond and Impossible missionsaid sugar. “One director said, ‘This joke is getting pretty bold here.’ “It was a gentle joke about the female lead. Because she was turned up by the police and the FBI… she needed a breast reduction to fit the Kevlar vest.”
Zucker, who also directed scary movie 3 and scary movie 4couldn’t believe it.
“It was pure oatmeal, so bland,” he said of the joke. “But not one of our funniest things [even] it was too much. I thought, ‘If that was the benchmark, then we have a big problem.’ They’re destroying comedy because nine percent of people don’t have a sense of humor.”
Looking back on the good old days, Zucker recalled, “We could be as offensive as we wanted. We went where the laughs were. We never thought we’d offend anybody, but when we did people offended, we knew we were on the right track. As time went on, it became the 90s and the 2000s and it changed… We never worried about those kinds of things naked gun or Scary movie movies.”
Zucker concluded: “Comedy is in trouble, but I think it’s coming back. I think there is a pendulum and it will swing back. I would like to see comedy filmmakers do comedy without fear… We just want to make people laugh.”
