Nostalgia out there is said to sell, and it’s one of the strongest and most recurring feelings in adults, or those who have gone through a memorable stage. But even in the entertainment industry it is a tool that has become fashionable. And that’s why we remember those horror movie characters that terrified the childhood of children of the 90s.
Freddy Krueger
Clearly there couldn’t be a bigger icon than there is caused 90s kids nightmares like Freddy Krueger, who made his film debut in Wes Craven’s ‘A Nightmare on Hell Street’. Robert Englund was the actor who for a long time brought the evil villain to life, in the film starring Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, among others. Available on HBO Max.
Candyman
Last year Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele revived the figure ofCandyman’, which first appeared in the 1992 horror film. Originally a creation of the stories of the author Clive Barker, but in the cinema it was played by Tony Todd, who gave him the image of the man with a hook in his hand, a cloak and many bees following him. Available on HBO Max.
chucky
It is likely that, together with the above, Chucky is one of the 90s characters who caused the most nightmares to children ever since. The diabolical doll debuted in 1988 in “Child’s Play”, directed by Tom Holland, not in Spider-Man, in the film with Alex Vincent, Brad Douriff and Catherine Hicks. Ed Gale was the one who brought the doll to life, which he starred in 7 deliveries and one series. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
IS
It may have been a miniseries at first, but 1990’s “It” was later turned into a horror movie in which Tim Curry played the clown Pennywise. The monster created by Stephen King, in Tommy Lee Wallace’s film, was the cause of many nightmares and phobias that some children still have today. Available on Apple TV.
pumpkin head
Now let’s go with the least recognized on the list, starting with Pumpkinhead, the villain of the horror film of the same name, released in 1988, with Stan Winston directing. It is a monster, or rather, the incarnation of the devil himself, who has been called upon to avenge the death of his son in an accident.
cheater
And finally, a character that was supposed to scare the hell out of fans of children’s horror films, like Trickster from “Brainscan”. The horror and science fiction film was released in 1994 under the direction of John Flynn, and starring Edward Furlong, from “Terminator 2”, along with Ryder Smith, Amy Hargreaves, among others. The story followed a boy obsessed with a video game, who could no longer distinguish between reality and the digital world.
