Warner Bros. Discovery cancels more movies and series completely to keep saving costs – Diffusion (Warner Bros. Discovery)

As already confirmed a few months ago, the company Discovery of Warner Bros it is entering a crisis to maintain a stable position within the sector. The restructuring, which the company has been going through since the merger that took place in April 2022, led to the cancellation of multiple titles and retirement of several executivesa situation that seems not to be close to an end.

Since the company’s new president, David Zaslav, took over as the head of Warner Bros. Discovery, he has decided to reduce the company’s expenses, which have resulted in the cancellation of numerous series and films. Recently, in a presentation before the SEC (The Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States), the company presented its financial data for the third quarter of 2022.

During this presentation it was revealed that after the cancellation of many of the projects, WBD saved about two billion dollars in the quarter from July to September, and this would only be part of Zaslav’s cost-saving action plan, so other productions are expected to be canceled in the near future.

The company, which owns the HBO Max streaming service, said all the removal of movies and TV shows was part of a plan to put the company’s finances in order after its merger, which cost about $ 43 billion. Likewise, he stressed that all this restructuring could last until next year. This was confirmed by the media slashfilm.

Batgirl was one of the first films canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery

Among the projects canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery, one of the most famous was “Batgirl”, a film that sees Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon / Batgirl in the Batman universe. The cast included a stellar cast with Brendan Fraser as the evil Firefly, JK Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon and Michael Keaton in his long-awaited return as Batman.

Like Batgirl, other titles that made it to HBO Max, like others that were already in its catalog, were suspended without warning, drastic changes that caused the discontent among users. Now, with all this new information, we can expect more cancellations, which will cause more disturbance among the public.

Other canceled series were Constantine and Madame Xanadu, which would be produced by JJ Abrams, with the DCEU one of the hardest hit by these changes. With all this, we still don’t know the future decisions of Warner Bros. Discovery, but given their statements it is clear that we will not see on the screen many of the series and films that we have already been waiting for.
