Among the most recent projects of the popular actress Millie Bobby Brown is the upcoming premiere of Enola Holmes 2 this November 4th on Netflix, as well as the highly anticipated fifth season of Stranger Things. And not only that, but in his busy schedule he adds filming The electrical state by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, also for Netflix.

This new film is based on the graphic novel by the Swedish artist, musician and designer Simon Stalenhag, which was crowdfunded through a Kickstarter campaign and was a successful phenomenon. The story takes us to a post-apocalyptic world set in 1997, where Michelle, an orphaned girl, embarks on a quest to find another human being.

The story offers us a devastated territory, nestled among the ruins of giant drones and discarded high-tech junk, of a society dedicated to the consumption of virtual reality. In practice it presents us with a world without hope, where the only thing that can be seen on the horizon is the end of human civilization.

What other details do we know about The Electric State?

In addition to Millie Bobby Brown, the Russo brothers’ film The Electric State includes Chris Pratt, Michelle Yeoh, Stanley Tucci, Brian Cox and Jenny Slate, although the roles of some of these actors and actresses in the film probably won’t appear on screen, but to lend his voice to CGI characters.

This project has spent many years trying to develop. In 2017 it was announced that it would be Andy Muchietti, the director of the two recent installments of Stephen King’s ‘It’, who was supposed to direct this film. But in the end that position was taken by the Russo brothers, even though Muschietti remains on board as one of the producers.

The screenplay for this adaptation was handled by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who also wrote Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War and many other Marvel Studios films. And as for Simon Stålenhag, the author of the graphic novel from which this film is based, it should be remembered that another of his work, Stories from the Loop, was also adapted for the screen by Amazon Prime Video.
