However, some of these suspense and horror films have dared to embody Satan himself.
Legend
From the mind of director Ridley Scott, he put a face on one of the most terrifying incarnations of Satan in ‘Legend’, a film in which Tim Curry, also known for bringing Pennywise to life, plays the Lord of Darkness. Released in 1985, and starring among others Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, David Bennent, the story follows an elf who takes Princess Lili to see the unicorns she cares for. witch
They say the devil himself can have thousands of faces, and one of his most chilling is in ‘witch’, a horror movie in which satan appears to the character of Anya Taylor-Joy, a young New England woman seduced by the power of a forest witch. The story of this film was released in 2015 and directed by Robert Eggers. Available on Lionsgate +, Amazon Prime Video and Claro.
angel heart
Evil rarely dares to represent itself in human form, but when it does, it is in the worst possible way. ‘angel heart’ is a suspense film in which Robert De Niro plays the devil. The story stars Mickey Rourke, Lisa Bonet and Charlotte Rampling. Directed by Alan Parker, the scene in which Satan appears is one of the best depictions of the evil one in cinema.
Constantine
Here yes, the Devil makes his appearance, and in his most classic form, as Satan in ‘Constantine’, played by Peter Stomare. The film is based on Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” for DC Comics and Keanu Reeves was cast in the role of John Constantine. With an emaciated and almost dying face, this depiction of evil is one of the craziest, although it is overshadowed by the archangel Gabriel himself. Available on HBO Max.
The prophecy
In one of the least remembered horror and fantasy films of the 1990s, “The Prophecy” or “Soldier of God”, he stars Viggo Mortensen as Satan and Christopher Walken as Archangel Gabriel. Directed by Gregory Widen, this story is about an angel who seeks the soul of a war veteran to manipulate him to help him in his war against humanity.
The devil’s advocate
Finally, another depiction of evil in human form, with a suit and tie, is in ‘The Devil’s Advocate’, a thriller in which Al Pacino plays a modern, millionaire and elegant devil living in New York. John Milton tempts Kevin Lomax, a lawyer played by Keanu Reeves, with power and money. Available on HBO Max.
