Apple’s streaming content payment platform, which has Emmy-winning titles like “Ted Lasso” or “Separation”, has increased the price of its services in individual and family subscriptions. The increase affects both Apple TV + and Apple Music subscribers in Europe and the United States.

The initial base price of Apple TV +, which at its launch in 2019 was 4.99 euros per month, has become 6.99 euros, which represents an increase of 40%. This, however, would not affect the Voice plan, which maintains the price of 4.99 euros per month, nor on the Student plan, set at 5.99 euros per month. For its part, Apple Music increases its individual subscription to € 10.99 (before € 9.99) and family subscription to € 14.99 (before € 12.99).
As expected, the increase also affects the cost of the Apple One service, which includes several business services in one package, including Apple TV + and Apple Music. In this case, the boom is between two and three euros per month in the three available plans: Individual (now 16.95 euros, before 14.95 euros), Family (now 22.95 euros, before 19.95 euros) and Premium (now 31.95 euros, before 28.95 euros EUR)
In a speech on TVLine, an Apple spokesperson justified that Apple Music’s price hike was a consequence of the price escalation of royalty licenses, adding that “artists and composers would earn more by streaming their music”. Moreover, he affirmed it “We continue to add new features that make Apple Music the best listening experience in the world.”.
As for the price increase of its multimedia service, the spokesperson defended it “We launched Apple TV + at a very low price because we started with very few movies and series”but after these three years, the platform now has a “Wide selection of award-winning and widely acclaimed series, films, documentaries and entertainment for the whole family”.
joins the herd
Apple TV + emerged in 2019 in response to HBO and Netflix’s monopoly of movie and series catalogs. Since, almost all the big platforms have reported an increase in their initial prices. In the case of Netflix it is already effective: the platform made a splash by implementing a new business model that worsened the existing conditions by placing economic obstacles on the number of screens that could be connected at the same time and on the use of downloads in more than one device. Similarly, this year Amazon Prime has changed from 3.99 euros to 4.99 euros per month, while HBO Max has already commented on the feasibility of increasing its current monthly fee by 8.99 euros.
