The Animation series Disney “Throne: Uprising” (Tron: Revolt), which was published on the Disney XD channel in 2012-2013, became a clear but very short page in the history of the throne franchise.
Despite the stylish graphics, an impressive cast and praising reviews, the project closed after a season.
The “rebellion” was conceived as a kind of bridge between the films “Throne” (1982) and “Throne: Heritage” (2010). De Plot spoke about a young program called Beck, who, under the guidance of the legendary throne, increased opposed to the club’s tyrant. Elia Wood, Mandy Moore and Lance Henriksen, a rare composition of such a star level for animation, participated in voice acting.
Why the project is closed
The official reason for Disney was dry and short: low reviews. Despite the enthusiastic reviews of critics, the public turned out to be small – especially for the Disney XD channel, where the bets were made on simpler and more massive animals.
As a result, even a brilliant visual style, Annie Awards Awards and loud names behind the scenes could not save the project: the costs of the production of episodes were high, and the sale of toys and the corresponding trader were minimal. For a channel aimed at commercial return, this has become a decisive factor.
The real reason is more complicated
Among the fans there was a long time to talk that the series’ killed the internal permutations in Disney. In 2013, the management of the Disney XD channel was replaced and the priorities were transferred to more “safe” projects aimed at proven brands. They even said that the cartoon was too gloomy and ‘mature’ for his target group, which means it was more difficult to sell it.
Some insiders also argued that Disney did not have a clear plan for the development of the film outflow at the time of the “rebellious” release. After the ‘throne: legacy’ almost failed at the cash register, the leadership became more careful and it did not decide to risk the expensive spin-offs.
