“Fantastic Four” failed at the cash register, but Marvel does not give up: the sequel is already working

Despite the weak reimbursements and a sharp decrease in the interest of the public, Marvel is planning to continue the history of the “Fantastic Four”.

Director Matt Shakman, who shot the first part of the “first steps”, will probably return to production. According to journalist Jeff Snyder, the studio expects that the coming appearance of the team in the films “Avengers: Judgement Day” and Avengers: Secret Wars will warm up the interests of the audience and will help better with the cash register.

The new “Fantastic Four” started with a decent $ 117.6 million in the United States, but by the second weekend she lost 66% of the audience, gathered only 38 million and lost to the competitor – “Superman” James Gann. At the moment the indicators look like this:

  • Vs: 211 963 853 $
  • International rental: 170 098 174 $
  • World costs: 382 062 027 $
  • Production budget: About 200,000,000 $

With such figures, the project threatens to be one of the largest financial disappointments in MCU, despite the positive reviews of the public (91% on Rotten Tomatoes, A- op Cinemascore). According to predictions, the final costs will be $ 520-570 million – which is higher than that of Torah: Love and Thunder, but still far from the hits of the franchise.

Why the film did not enter the audience

Critics agree that the ‘first steps’ did not offer the audience memorable moments, a cameo or large-scale plot twists-it was just not necessary to watch the film, I will not watch it.

In contrast to Superman, who caused discussions thanks to non -standard characters such as crypto and Mr. Terrick, the “Fantastic Four” went along the most safe path – and was not remembered as a result.

The limited reporting of the public is also noticeable by statistics: about 70% of the public made up men, and the share of family campaigns for the film is only 17% (against 31% of Superman). Competition with “Bad Guys 2” in the second weekend also attracted the family segment.

At the same time, Marvel clearly does not get rid of the “first family” of the accounts. In addition to the sequel, the four return to two large crossovers with the Avengers.
