‘Daggers in the back 2’: Rian Johnson confirms Benoit Blanc is gay and talks about role of Angela Lansbury

As Deadline reports, Rian Johnson, the director of the long-awaited “Daggers in the Back” sequel, spoke at the London Film Festival about Lansbury’s posthumous appearance in his new film.. Alongside him will also appear Stephen Sondheim, the Broadway legend who passed away last November 2021. “They were so kind and so generous. We thought, they both wanted to be in the movie? We didn’t think they would. And they were both great. As for the two of them, In addition to the honor of having them in the film, being able to personally have 10 minutes with each of them to tell them what their work meant to me was really special.”says the director of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”.

The characters of Lansbury and Sondheim will appear by video chatting with the protagonists of the film, among which stands out Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc. The cameo will be a reference to the long history of both artists within the stories of mysteries and murders that inspired “Daggers in the back: The mystery of Glass Onion”.

Blanc’s sexuality confirmed

On the other hand, Johnson also took the time to talk about the sexuality of the popular detective protagonist of his successful saga. As EW reports, Johnson replied forcefully when asked about the scene where Blanc appears to have a male lover: “Yes, he’s obviously gay”.

In addition, both the director and Craig himself have talked about the actor in charge of playing this new lover, whose identity they try to keep secret. “I can’t imagine anyone in the world bringing me more joy than being with Benoit Blanc”Johnson says. “No spoilers, who wouldn’t want to live with that person?”adds the beloved “Casino Royale” actor.

Daggers in the Back: The Mystery of the Glass Onion will also star Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson and Ethan Hawke. The film will be released in Spanish theaters on November 23, only for a week. After that, it will be available on Netflix from December 23rd.
