Andy Serkis is developing a series adaptation of THE WICKER MAN

Andy Serkis is intended to develop a serial adaptation of Robin Hardyis a classic of the 1973 horror film The wicker man. Serkis will develop the series with the producer Jonathan Cavendish and writer Howard Overman (Misfits And War of the worlds).

The original film starred Edward Woodward And Christopher Lee, and the story follows police sergeant Neil Howle, “traveling by seaplane to the remote island of Summerisle, in the Hebrides, to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. The devout Christian is dismayed to discover that the islanders pay homage to the Celtic pagan gods of their ancestors and all hell breaks loose, which ends in tragedy.

I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was in high school and it messed me up! I had never seen anything like it before, and it was one of those first films that opened my eyes to sinister cult stories.

There was a remake of The wicker man in 2006 she starred Nicolas Cagebut that was a watered down version of the original.

I hope Andy Serkis does this sister story justice as he develops it as a series.
