The actress was born in New York on October 16, 1927, her birth name was Eileen Annucci, and she was the daughter of a nurse named Rose Isabel and a dentist, Amerigo Giuseppe Annucci. At the age of 30, Ryan met actor and director Leo Penn during rehearsals for the comedy “The Iceman Cometh”. They soon fell in love and got married a few months later. The couple were together for 41 years of marriage until the actor’s death in 1998.
