‘The Winchesters’: Tom Welling joins the cast of the ‘Supernatural’ prequel series

“The Winchesters” is the prequel to one of the CW’s best-loved and longest-running series, “Supernatural”. East spin off will show how John and Mary (the parents of the protagonists of ‘Supernatural’) met and the challenges they faced to save their relationship and the whole world. The story will be told from the perspective of his son Dean Winchester, who will be the narrator. Jensen Ackles, the actor who brought this character to life in “Supernatural”, reprises his role to lend him his voice.

Tom Welling, actor known for playing Superman on the “Smallville” series, is the new addition to the cast of “The Wichesters”. The news was revealed on Sunday 9 October by the producers of New York Comic Con where, as if the surprise were not enough, Welling took the stage to the amazement of the fans.

Welling will play Samuel Campbell, Mary’s father and head of the hunting family, a group whose goal he is put an end to the world’s supernatural threats and protect humanity from monsters, demons, ghosts and all kinds of superhuman beings and events. As the father and head of this family, Samuel is the mentor of his daughter Mary and through hunting he has two goals: the first (and most obvious) is to save helpless people from supernatural dangers; the second, to fix the tense and bad relationship he has with his daughter. He is a gruff man of few words, which will make things difficult. Tom Welling’s first appearance as Samuel Campbell will be seen in the seventh episode. The CW series will arrive in Spain via HBO Max, though they haven’t announced a premiere date here.

Robbie Thompson, writer and executive producer, spoke about the decision to choose Tom Welling: “When we discussed choosing Samuel Campbell’s iconic character, everyone felt he had to be someone who could step into the role and immediately provide dignity and a story. Jensen and Danneel shared Tom Welling’s idea and As soon as his name was mentioned, we all knew he was the perfect person for the role. Tom is an incredible actor and a wonderful person, and we are very excited to welcome him to “The Winchesters” and the “Supernatural” family.

Jensen and Daneel Ackles, the stars of “Supernatural”, will have the job of executive producers on the series. Chaos Machine Productions (his production company) produces with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios. David H. Goodman (“Without a Trace”, “Fringe”), John Showalter (“Supernatural”, “The Mentalist”) and Glen Winter (“Smallville”) will also executive produce. The last also directed the pilot chapter.

“I am a Superman”

Tom Welling achieved world fame for playing Superman in the “Smallville” series. It is well known that this DC Comics character has been played by several actors throughout history, but Welling is the person who has done it multiple times. He did it in all 217 episodes of “Smallville” (2001-2011) and if that feat wasn’t enough, he has directed seven.

“The Winchesters” will arrive in the United States on October 11, but nonetheless the release date in Spain and Latin America is unknownwe only know that he will do it through HBO Max. The protagonists, John Winchester and Mary Campbell, will be played by Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly respectively.
