Emma Caulfield (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “Scarlet Witch and Vision”) suffers from multiple sclerosis

Emma Caulfield, the unforgettable demon Anya in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and nosy Dottie Jones in “Scarlet Witch and the Vision”, revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that he suffers from multiple sclerosis, same disease that Selma Blair and Christina Applegate suffer from. Caulfield, 49, was diagnosed in 2010 and although it was a real shock at first, she says she’s doing well so far: “Honestly, my attitude isn’t falling apart because of a fear of ‘what if’ or ‘what might be’ or ‘what is’ for other people. I just have to move on.’

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurological disease characterized by the development of demyelinating lesions and damage to the central nervous system. This condition disrupts communication between the brain and the body so that the immune system breaks down the protective covering of the nerves. The cause of the disease is unknown and for now there is no cure, only a cure to reduce the progression of disability. For Caulfield, the first symptom appeared while working on the “Gigantic” series: “I woke up one morning and felt like I had a million ants on the left side of my face. That feeling like when you’ve been sitting in one position for too long? … The sensation came and went like a rush of blood. Then I felt, I wouldn’t say completely numb, because I could still scratch and feel my nails, but extremely numb. I went to my acupuncturist and he said, “I don’t know, maybe you have Bell’s palsy?”. At the insistence of his acupuncturist, Caulfield had an MRI which revealed the diagnosis: “[El médico] He told me: “You have multiple sclerosis”, that’s right. It was an out of body experience. I told him it wasn’t possible, like “what are you talking about”. He was very direct about it: “Well, you can ask for a second opinion.” It was kind of a nightmare. ”

The return of Sarah / Dottie

Obviously the diagnosis didn’t stop Caulfield, and after starring in four episodes of “Scarlet Witch and the Vision”, her character will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the spin-off “Agatha: Coven of Chaos”, with Kathryn Hahn. Although she obviously cannot reveal anything about how she will return or what weight she will have in the new series.

As he explains to Vanity Fair, during the filming of ‘Wandavision’ no one knew about his illness, because he thought that, being his first time working for Marvel Studios, he didn’t want to draw attention to himself, he was too important and just wanted do your job well: “I had to nail it. Be cool. Be memorable. Don’t let my friend Jac Schaeffer (the showrunner) down.” Only her parents and husband knew it, not even her sister or her friends, but now she has decided to make it public because after shooting some outdoor scenes in the summer she ended up physically exhausted: “It took me a few days off [recuperarme]. It was like, “I need to replenish my energy right now. I’ve done too much.” Physically I was trying to look and feel normal when I was in front of the camera. They were all breaking up, but it’s exponentially worse for someone with this. It becomes like “Oh, God, am I about to suddenly run out of steam?” I knew he looked pretty miserable, to the point where our poor director said, “How are you? I know it’s not very glamorous sitting here. “And I’m like,” Oh great, “and now he’s going to think I’m one of those high-end actors who are unhappy. I don’t know if he thought that, but he was worried.” Good! I’m fine!””. “Agatha: Coven of Chaos” will premiere on Disney Plus in 2023 and “Scarlet Witch and Vision” is already available on the same streaming platform.
