For those who celebrate Halloween in a religious way, decorating their home, with pumpkins and, above all, horror movie marathons, Netflix has a great gift. These are some of the best installments in the genre, with which to start the season where kids trick or treat in homes, while others prefer to have fun in front of the screen.
The lighthouse
It’s nothing simple and childish, but since its premiere in the Netflix catalog, ‘The lighthouse’ has become one of the best horror movies of the last years. From the mind of Robert Eggers and played by Robert Pattinson alongside Willem Dafoe, the story follows two lighthouse keepers who must spend a few weeks caring for an old lighthouse. The storyline sounds simple, but Eggers prepares his storyline to reserve a surprise that will keep everyone glued to their places.
mid summer
In the same spirit as the previous one, Ari Aster, another of the genre’s most acclaimed directors in recent years, debuted in 2019, ‘mid summer’, a horror movie that recently hit Netflix. The story tells the journey of Dani, played by Florence Pugh, who, together with her boyfriend and some of her friends, moves to a twisted summer festival, from which it will be impossible for them to escape.
Annihilation
To round off the more intense ones on the list, and make way for the more relaxed ones, there is also ‘Annihilation’, a horror and science fiction film, by director Alex Garland, starring Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac and others. The story follows a group of scientists who investigate and try to rescue a squad of soldiers in an area that alters the laws of physics.
Way of fear
In a record plus for a teen audience, we have the Netflix horror film trilogy’Way of fear’, a slasher played by Sadie Sink from’ Stranger Things’, about a series of brutal murders in a cursed little town. There, a girl and her friends will try to understand what happens with these crimes, which involve the past, present and future.
A quiet place
Surely to enjoy Halloween they don’t do it alone, and they want to call their family and / or friends, and for them there is ‘A Quiet Place’, a suspense and horror movie on Netflix that doesn’t have so many fears or moments of fear. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt play a couple and their children trying to survive in a world on the brink of an apocalypse created by creatures driven by sound.
Do not breath
Finally, and to close with one of the best horror and suspense films on Netflix, there is ‘Don’t Breathe’, by Fede Álvarez. The story tells how three thieves find the perfect crime house, an old man living alone and holding a juicy cash reward. However, the group of three find that things haven’t been as easy as they thought.
