Dark German thriller The Perfumer, ranks in the world top ten – Diffusion (Netflix)
The new Netflix movie ‘The perfumer’ is an adaptation of the book ‘El Perfume’, published in 1985 by the German writer Patrick Süskind, has become a worldwide best-seller and, in addition to this, has been praised for something that, at first glance, would seem impossible: to transmit only through the words something as complex as smell. Now, the film has just positioned itself within the Top Ten of the world platform.
The novel from which this Netflix movie is based, set in the 18th century, follows the life of a perfumer with an extraordinary sense of smell, but with the misfortune of not smelling anything. This character is in charge of killing virgin women, so that, through the fluids of their bodies, he can produce his unique scents.
The perfumer will have you hooked on the sofa with his mix of crime and suspense.
The popularity of Patrick Süskind’s book ‘The Perfume’ has made it adapted to the big screen in 2006 with the film ‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’, after years of being a project pursued by many and which was said to be impossible to adapt to the screen.
In 2018, a series-format version came from Netflix, a German production that adapts the novel by El Perfume, to a story set in the current era, with the same name as the book.
Now the same streaming platform produces a new film this 2022, which is called “The Perfumer”, and which is also set in a contemporary setting, but this time there is a twist in the plot. All within a crime thriller genre narrative.
‘The Perfumer’ is a film directed by Nils Willbrandt and starring Emilia Schüle, Ludwig Simon, Robert Finster and August Diehl. It recently premiered on Netflix and quickly positioned itself within the first places in the top ten of the most viewed in Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, Honduras, Mexico, among others.
This new version presents the story of Sunny, an inspector who has lost his sense of smell, as well as the love of his partner. Which lies behind the case of a perfumer who gets his aromas from the corpse of his victims, but with whom Sunny ends up getting involved, making a pact to recover his sense of smell.
