Fascinating trailer for a documentary about an INTO THE DEEP submarine killer

Netflix has released a trailer for an intriguing new documentary film titled Deepwhich tells the story of the famous Danish inventor Peter Madsenwho brutally killed a Swedish journalist aboard his homemade submarine in 2017. It seems such a strange story, and the killer kept changing his story of what happened and even tried to fool the police.

The crazy thing is that director Emma SullivanThe documentary project began as a profile on Madsen and his rocket building company, and as he worked on it took a wild new direction. Here is the synopsis:

In the summer of 2016, Emma Sullivan, an Australian filmmaker, began documenting the life and work of Danish inventor Peter Madsen. Madsen was famous in Denmark for building a homemade, crowd-funded submarine and was now attempting to become the world’s first amateur astronaut by building his own space rocket. A seemingly charismatic and playful man, Madsen attracted engineering and science students to his laboratory in Copenhagen, who were fascinated by his energy and his unbridled ambitions.

A year into his project, Sullivan filmed Madsen on August 10, 2017 as he prepares to take a Swedish journalist, Kim Wall, on a trip in his submarine. During that voyage, Madsen brutally killed the reporter and disposed of her remains at sea. Despite the ferocity of the murder, this appears to have been a carefully planned and premeditated crime and some of Madsen’s preparations were unknowingly caught on camera.

It’s incredible. The director shared in a statement: This is a very personal story for me. When I started this project I met a group of people who wanted to be part of something positive with someone they admired at the helm. But then the unbearable happened. When you are suddenly drawn into such a nightmare, it changes your life forever. The film is a testament to the people who were close to Madsen as they slowly grasped the true nature of man and the terrible crimes he committed. “

The documentary features a year of observational shooting, “his documentary provides an unprecedented portrait of a seemingly charming eccentric who transforms into a killer before our eyes. More touchingly, it shows us the innocent enthusiasm of the amateur space mission and then tracks the impact of crime on Madsen’s supporters as they slowly grasp the true nature of the man they called friend and mentor.

Netflix debuts In dAndep on September 30, 2022.
