The company Original Apple Movies has announced its new documentary film Extracurricular and A24, with the story of the legendary “haenyeo” or “Korean mermaids” on the island of Jeju, South Korea. The film is directed by Sue Kim, nominated for a Peabody Award for ‘ The Speed ​​Cubers’, and is a project in which Apple TV + is associated with Extracurricular, the production house of Malala Yousafzai.

The film tells the story of “haenyeo” or the “sirens of Korea”, a group of elderly divers, who for generations have been dedicated to catching shellfish off the coast of Jeju, giving great support to their community, becoming matriarchs and householders of their families.

The production of this interesting AppleTv + documentary comes from Extracurricular, the production company of the Nobel Prize-winning women’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who partnered with AppleTV + to create original programming.
