SPOILER attention!
* This article contains spoilers for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.
With the time elapsed since the premiere of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ last May, members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are ready to openly talk about one of the great twists of Sam Raimi’s feature film: the conversion of Wanda Maximoff ( Elizabeth Olsen) in the film’s villain. The actress behind Scarlet Witch explains to Variety what she thought when she was introduced to this new aspect of her character: “This is a big leap from the woman I played!”. However, at Marvel they knew they had to try because they’re rarely lucky enough to have a professional like Elizabeth Olsen willing to do anything for her character. Kevin Feige admits: “We just dared to try something like ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision’ because Lizzie is an exceptional actress”. We remember in fact that there were no more candidates for the role of Wanda, as soon as her name came they called her.

But in addition to talking about Wanda’s breakthrough in Benedict Cumberbatch’s film, we also need to talk about her ending. She flattened by a temple and half a mountain, sacrificing herself to stop the mess that she herself has caused. However, we did see a rather dark red flash, and it is rather difficult to escape, as they say “no body, no dead”. The Marvel Studios president won’t release a piece about Wanda’s possible future in the UCM, but it certainly doesn’t sound entirely closed: “She’s incredibly humble and incredibly focused, but when the cameras start rolling, she’s a force of nature. There’s so much more to explore. We haven’t touched many of her main stories from the comics.”. It gives us hope precisely because, as we said, there is no corpse: “I don’t know if we saw her under the rubble. I saw a collapsing tower and a tiny red flash. I do not know what that means”. One thing is clear: “I’d work with Lizzie for another 100 years if I could. Anything is possible in the multiverse! We’ll have to wait and see.”.
no contract yet
Elizabeth Olsen prefers to hide behind her boss before answering: “It’s nice for me to know how he communicates these things. It makes me feel like it’s my job to keep my mouth shut until he makes an announcement of some kind.”. But he gets wet and also thinks that Wanda hasn’t said goodbye, but see you soon: “I think none of these characters have disappeared forever”. However, warns that there is no firm contract on a return to the MCU: “I really don’t know my future. There is nothing in agreement”. He has a wish: that Wanda get it “a kind of redemption”. You have already suffered enough.
There are a lot of possible scenarios for Scarlet Witch’s return to the MCU. For a start, we haven’t seen the big mutant explosion expected from the Fox acquisition and the X-Men rights recovery. There is also the spin-off of “WandaVision” centered on Agatha Harkness, the character of Kathryn Hahn. And the two episodes of Avengers in 2025 if we go as late as possible. For now, fans of Elizabeth Olsen will have to make do with seeing her in ‘Love & Death’, her new series for HBO Max that is coming soon..
