When you think about things that predicted current events, the predictions of “Back to the Future” or “The Simpsons” always come to mind. However, in science fiction movies, things go a little further, and there are predictions from the use of wireless technology, to a socio-political context that warned about bad things, but we’re not listening to them.

children of man

Details on how humanity was born are scarce, but it is known that in the dystopian science fiction film ‘children of man’by Alfonso Cuarón, 18 years of infertility have passed around the world, which means that a child has not been born for many years, which has put humanity on the verge of extinction. There, a man meets a young pregnant woman, but her situation could be dangerous for many interested parties. Available on StarzPlay, Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max.

Fahrenheit 451

Already in Ray Bradbury’s novel there was talk of a future, or a present in our case, quite submerged in a questionable political context. And while some look to inventions like tiny headphones, the adaptation of ‘Fahrenheit 451’ warned of a fairly controlled futurewhere the government oversees any consumption of culture in general.

Blade Runner

One of the first science fiction films that warned about the future dark and gray was Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner’, starring Harrison Ford. The story is set on Earth, which has already been left by humanity, and only the poor remain who cannot leave the planet, which has been left in perpetual rain caused by global change and climate. Although a somewhat unknown title today, ‘Hackers’ is a science fiction film that featured virtual reality, at least very close to what we know today. The first film by Angelina Jolie, and which showed an innovative device in the video game market, and which is having the first applications in the creation of a metaverse. Available on Apple TV.

terminator

Time travel to send killing machines into the past is not yet possible, however, one of the best science fiction movies in history is “Terminator”, which showed several innovations that are now daily, but also has some very troubling ones like drones military, remotely controlled robots to serve in the war field. Total recall

Finally, another adaptation of the work of writer Phillip K. Dick, and which has sparked several debates on the use of technology today, ‘Total Recall’. The science fiction classic of the ’90s involved whole-body monitoring at airports, but more worryingly, brain or mind scanners, which when you think about it, give their apps quite a bit of a thrill.
