I didn’t get a chance to see the director You Westis the new horror movie Pearl yet, but I’ve heard good things about it and will soon devote myself to watching it. Pearl is a prequel to West’s horror film Xwhich was released earlier this year.

My Goth stars in the movie like Pearl, a young woman in 1918 with high hopes of leaving her small town and becoming a big star. As her dream seems to crumble, she becomes more and more unstable and seems to go for a killing spree with a pitchfork and an ax.

Legendary director Martin Scorsese recently saw the film and in a statement, he shared with A24, praises the film and its director by saying:

“Ti West’s films have a kind of energy that is so rare these days, fueled by a pure, undiluted love of cinema. You feel it in every frame. A prequel to ‘X’ made in a diametrically opposite cinematic register. (think 1950s Scope color melodramas), “Pearl” creates 102 wild, mesmerizing, deeply – and I mean deeply – disturbing minutes. West and his inspirational muse and creative partner Mia Goth really know how to play with their audience. … before I plunged the knife into our chest and began to writhe. I was fascinated, then troubled, then so troubled that I had a hard time falling asleep. But I couldn’t stop looking. “

This is indeed a great praise! I was looking forward to this movie, but reading that statement for Scorsese definitely thrilled me more. Can’t wait to be bothered!
