Intense trailer for the documentary BURIED: THE ALPINE AVALANCHE OF 1982

A trailer has been released for an intense documentary film, titled Buried: the 1982 avalanche of alpine meadowstelling the terrifying true story of an avalanche at Alpine Meadows ski resort in Lake Tahoe in March 1982. This is one of those tragic events that I haven’t heard of until now and that must have been an extremely frightening experience.

Buried chronicles the third deadliest avalanche in US history, the miraculous rescues and traumas that still haunt many of the survivors today. Before the avalanche, the Ski Patrol at the Alpine Meadows were known as “the undisputed gods of winter” until this event changed everything.

In the early 1980s, the Alpine Meadows Ski Patrol were the undisputed gods of winter in the mountain village of Lake Tahoe, California, a sun-kissed wonderland of dust and endless partying. With the mountain closed due to the high avalanche danger, an avalanche of unpredictable magnitude was released. Millions of pounds of snow fell down the mountainside, demolishing the resort’s base area and burying the parking lot. The wreck was unimaginable and there was no time for the shocked patrol team to linger, eight missing victims were buried in the slide – colleagues, friends, family – and every second that passed was precious. Over the next five days, through a relentless storm and unimaginable tragedy, the rescue team persevered. Innocence was lost, mortality faced, Mother Nature calculated, but despite all this they never lost hope of a miracle.

Buried: the 1982 avalanche of alpine meadows is co-directed by the directors Jared Drake (Visioneers, greetings from home) and manufacturer Steven Mr. and Greenwich Entertainment will release the film in select US theaters starting September 23, 2022, before it goes on VOD in November.
