According to the Belgian newspaper Le soir, which embarked to investigate the truth of this story, in an interview with the author’s cousin, he confirmed that the girl’s parents were arrested in 1941 for participating in the resistance and that they died during the war. There is no date for her mother, but she says her father was shot dead in a concentration camp.

At the same time, other relatives took care of Misha, very hard years for the girl. Defonseca, after having denied the statements of the newspaper, she surrendered to the evidence and lost the forgiveness of the lie. In a letter addressed to Le Soir he writes: “This story is mine.
