First trailer for ‘The Fabelmans’: The new Steven Spielberg will thrill you

“Movies are dreams you will never forget”begins by voicing a voiceover in the trailer for ‘The Fabelmans’, the new Steven Spielberg who has just made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival and which the first reviews are already talking about “Oscar winner” and to be the director’s most personal film. And it is no less. The director of classics like “Encounters of the third phase”, “ET, the extraterrestrial” or “Jurassic Park” has always had a fixation for families and this time he focuses on his own, on his fictional story, to honor his parents and tell us the origin of his love for cinema. And get ready for some thrills, because this first trailer released by Universal Pictures is heartbreaking and feels like a dead giveaway that the master, Hollywood’s King Midas, did it again:

“If you stop making movies, you will break your mother’s heart”. Son of a scientist and an artist, little Sammy Fabelman will discover his great passion in the cinema, which will worry and disappoint his father while making his mother proud. The film reviews some of the best-known moments from the director’s biography, like the train crash he shot with his Lionel model and the first films he made as a child and as a teenager with his friends and family with his Super 8 camera. Even the anti-Semitic attacks he suffered at school.

Big names in front and behind the cameras

‘The Fabelmans’ stars Gabriel LaBelle (‘Predator’) as Sammy Fabelman’s 16-year-old version, four-time Oscar® nominee Michelle Williams (‘Manchester by the Sea’) as artist mother Mitzi; Paul Dano (“The Batman”) as his successful scientist father, Burt; Seth Rogen (“Steve Jobs”) as Bennie Loewy, Burt’s best friend and honorary “uncle” of the Fabelman children; and Oscar nominee Judd Hirsch (“Diamonds in the Rough”) as Boris, Mitzi’s uncle. We will also see Jeannie Berlin (“Compulsory Marriage”) as Sammy’s paternal grandmother, Hadassah Fabelman; Julia Butters (“Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood”) as Reggie and Keeley Karsten as Natalie, both Sammy’s sisters; and Robin Bartlett (“The Spell of the Moon”) as her maternal grandmother, Tina Schildkraut.

But Spielberg is not alone in this and in the attention to the team that accompanies the director: Director John Williams, winner of five Academy Awards, composed the score; Mark Bridges (“The Artist”) is in charge of costume design and Rick Carter (“Avatar”) is in charge of production design. Together with Spielberg, Tony Kushner signs the script, after collaborating with Lincoln and ‘Munich’. Janusz Kaminski (‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’) is the director of photography and production of Kristie Macosko Krieger (‘West Side Story’), Carla Raij (‘Maestro’) and Josh McLaglen (‘Logan’).

“The Fabelmans” will hit US theaters for Thanksgiving on November 11th.. In Spain we are waiting for the official release date to be announced.
