ROCKSMITH + is now available on PC, but the song list hesitated me

Ubisoft has officially launched Rocksmith +! This is the next iteration of the software / game that aims to teach people how to play the guitar using their favorite songs. The team changed things up with this and turned it into a subscription service rather than a one-time purchase, but at launch, you have access to all content that includes over 5,000 songs. You can also check out the full song list online and I want to talk about it in a minute. The songs cover a wide range of genres and artists that hit pretty much everything. Plus, you no longer need the Real Tone cable like Rocksmith + The Connect mobile app lets you use your phone as a microphone for free. In the past, Rocksmith it was a great tool to practice and, presumably, they really made things better Rocksmith +, we’ll have to check it out to know for sure though. You can subscribe Rocksmith + now (affiliate link) for $ 14.99 for 1 month, $ 39.99 for 3 months or $ 99.99 for 12 months.

Now let’s go back to the song list because I think it deserves a discussion. I know the Ubisoft team had to manage a lot of licensing deals to use the 5,000+ tracks included in Rocksmith +. This is no small feat and I want to acknowledge that I understand that there has probably been a lot of work behind the scenes to get this huge list. However, the library seems lacking to me based on what I’ve seen in the track list. After launch, I quickly tried to see if any of my favorite artists like Foo Fighters, Alter Bridge, Rise Against, blink-182, Green Day, Avril Lavigne, etc. was included and the response was a resounding “no!” This was frustrating as these are not small acts or unknown acts. In fact, each of these bands have had songs in previous iterations of Rocksmith. This had disappointed me. Eventually I found an artist I liked, Bowling For Soup, and quite a number of their songs were included. Unfortunately, only one of them was one that I recognized, “Emily”. It seems that they failed to get many of the big rock bands to sign up for it, leaning more on other genres to fill the library and when they got a more rock artist, they failed to get the songs that people generally know or want. learn. Don’t get me wrong, I love having some bands and songs that I don’t recognize Rocksmith. I’ve been introduced to some bands like Minus the Bear through Rocksmith. But when it seems like none of the songs I want are there, one wonders if it’s worth it. I’ll try Rocksmith + regardless of at least seeing what the new interface and the lessons look like and maybe even turning on some music that I wouldn’t normally try. I just hope more recognizable rock bands and rock songs are coming to the game.
