Alex Garland is back this year with ‘Men’, his new film which this time goes to the horror side to offer one of the scariest stories so far this year, or so critics say. Additionally, A24 is the producer and has finally been confirmed when it hits theaters in Mexico.
For this occasion, Alex Garland puts science fiction aside to create a folkloric horror film with ‘Menu’, the new A24 ribbon, who will take care of the distribution. Also, the director calls Jessie Buckley from “I Think About the End” and Rory Kinnear (Years and Years), to star in his sinister story.
Now, it has been confirmed that ‘Menu’ of A24 will premiere on 22 September in cinemas in Mexico. It should be noted that this film has already been released in other parts of Latin America, but as usual in this type of release which is not Hollywood, it takes a few days to reach the region.
Also, ‘Menu’ was one of the most acclaimed horror films of the year in its passage through different festivals, so it arrives at a perfect time of the year, close to the beginning of Halloween and the Day of the Dead in Mexico, to be able to enjoy its horror folklore story.
What is the story of ‘Men’ about?
As some have pointed out, the horror of this film is similar to that of “The Exorcist” or “Rose Mary’s Baby”, albeit with the distinctive touch of an A24 production, as in “Hereditary” or “The Witch”. ‘Men’ follows the story of Harper, who recently went through a personal tragedy and decided to leave her home in London.
It is there that a new life begins in an English countryside where she spends her days alone and reflecting to heal her loss. After meeting her landlord, the girl goes out for a day of walking, and is taken by a nightmare in broad daylight, from that moment on she can no longer feel safe.
Reviews of “Men” have mostly been favorable due to the dark and horror atmosphere it achieves, however, they also admit that it has its flaws and controversies. But as always, the viewer has the last word and we’ll just have to wait a few days to see it.
