Amber Midthunder confesses she only cared about representing natives well in ‘Prey’ – AFP (Agency)
Since its premiere last August, “Prey” has been one of the most successful and acclaimed films in the “Predator” series, largely thanks to the work of Amber Midthunder, the young actress who plays Naru. But while among so many praises, the star only cared about Native American opinion.
With ‘Prey’ the story stars Amber Midthunder, who plays Nary, a young woman from a Comanche tribe who wants to become a warrior, but the position is reserved for men. However, the arrival of the first Predator on Earth shows her what she is made of.
Now, in an interview with Collider, Amber Midthunder explains that she wanted to give Native Americans a good representation ‘Prey’. Part of the making was hiring a team of actors who were all Comanche, except the one who brought the Predator to life.
I feel like that was the purpose of the film and that was what it was about, so it came out like that, and that the Comanches responded well, and for the Natives, in general, that they responded well, it was a big sigh of relief. ”
The actress comments: “Really, what I thought about the most when I was making the film and then publishing it was how the natives would feel about it. The response from the Indo-American nation to the film was really what shocked me. That was the thing that weighed on me the most, what the answer would be.
Amber Midthunder delivered and “Prey” was a hit
Ultimately, “Prey” with Amber Midthunder was a hit on the platforms it premiered on, such as Star +, Disney + and Hulu. And while a second part of Naru’s story hasn’t been confirmed, the same star recently confessed that the sequel could be coming very soon, but only if there’s a good story.
Additionally, ‘Prey’ has two original versions, one in which it is spoken entirely in English, and another voiced in Comanche, the Native American language, to give more realism to Dan Trachteberg’s story, and which can be activated in any platform where it is available.
Right now, Amber Midthunder is recording Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” where she will have a small participation as Yue, the princess of the Northern Water Tribe. At the moment all that remains is to wait for the announcement of ‘Prey 2.
